The heat is up

The dog days of Summer are here. If any of you were wondering it is Hot outside. The heat seams to bother me more now than it use to. I remember my Granny in the kitchen with a wet towel around her neck, standing over the stove canning the vegetables that came from the garden. I bet it was 100 plus in that kitchen. We had no air conditioning then. I am sure a lot of you remember similar events. All us kids running in and out. The screen door, slamming and her warning us, I am going to spat your leg, if you don't get settled down. I never recall getting my leg spated, I do recall getting the fly swatter across my behind.
Kate Speed, my Granny, had a way of bringing all of us together. There was always something good to eat,in her kitchen. Maybe just a biscuit and honey. It was so good as we sat at the table and laughed. I loved her and still do. I wanted to be like her and still do. She was simple and straight forward. You knew where you stood with her at all times and with that she had a wonderful sense of humor.Oh how we laughed in that 3 room house on Barton Street. It was the best place in the world. Granny never had much but, she gave all she had. I pray that someday when my grandchildren write about me, they will say Gran Gran gave all she had.
A side note: I still have that table. It is one of my prize possessions.

A lot has gone on this week. What do we need to know?

Bob tells me he was considering closing the food pantry, lack of interest, participation. He used both words. Then out of the clear blue someone brought a few boxes of food. Maybe it is a restoration of a GREAT IDEA. It is a good thing to have food on the church grounds. God does send people for us to assist, If we turn them away hungry, we have turned away Christ.

Nancy Solomon and Wanda Mitchell have donated a wheelchair to the church. It will be kept in the Media storage room. This will ensure easy access. This is a very thoughtful and useful donation. We could have used it for Fred Porter a few Sundays ago when he fell. It is for all to use. Thanks Nancy and Wanda.

The fire extinguishers are here. Carl will install them ( Monday). Take time out. Make yourselves well-informed , where the fire extinguishers are located . Gerald Mitchell is a retired firefighter. He has reminded us of the importance of fire safety. Just a thought; we should encourage him to give the childrens classes a lesson in FIRE safety. Place that on the to do list. Heads up Gerald.

There is a new Coffee House. It is located beside Ms. Bairds Bread Store. It is relaxed atmosphere , beverages and light snacks are available to all no charge. Donatins are accepted. Marvin Hull gave a heads up and the Vine is passing it on. Check it out and let me know what you think.

The new table is in the Nursery. It is red , heavy duty plastic, rounded corners, short and I am told virtually indestructible. Have the manufactors met any 2 and3 year old kidos . Thanks to the sack lunch several months back, for supplying the funds. Jay and Carla Aldredge inspired the lunch and the idea to donate the money to the Nursery Fund for new and much needed equipment.
Monty put it together Sat. It was funny to see 6'3" Monty setting on a small chair checking out the table. It was a have to have been there moment.

A BIG way to go to Jackie Solomon. He worked Friday and Saturday (11.30 pm) on the projector. I can testify to the fact, he was up , down , under, over , above , below, in , out , sawing , painting and generally sweating up a storm. When you see him have pity on him , he worked hard, and it will make a tendentious difference. (when he gets that one little cable). Thank You also goes to Margie: the gofer. Bonnie: the baker. And Spencer, just was.

If you know of Away to go... Let me know..

CC is feeling better . He delivered another strong message. The spirit of the message is heart filled, and I pray, taken to heart. Thank you CC . You are a faithfully servant.

Gateway hosted guest Pastors : The Fords. This was the second time I had the opportunity to hear them speak. It was a powerful message, from Isaiah. Monty sang and played the guitar. We sang Holy Spirit come. All agreed we had missed that song.
The Holy Spirit came and we were blessed.
CC message was from Isaiah.
David's scripture was from Isaiah .
I suppose; we will take another look at Isaiah this week.

I came across this message. I pray you enjoy :
