Do we really love the Lord? Now take a minute, I was taken back and these questions were presented to me. Answer honestly:
When gathering with family and freinds do or did you thank the Lord for all that he had given? The feast that lay in front of you and your families.
When setting at the breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner table do or did you thank the Lord for all that he had provided for you that day and every day? Now this is every time you set to eat.
When setting a lone to watch t.v. and have that delicious snack and soda. Did or do you thank the Lord? Left over pie, cake, a treat. Be honest.
As I refected on these questions ; did I thank God each time I partook in his bounty?
My answer was no. Now this was everytime , not just when people were watching, not just when family was present, no everytime. Every candy bar, glass of tea, piece of pie. And we are just talking food here folks. Some great mind somewhere said: A true reflection of character is doing the right thing when no one is looking. In the world where I live God is always watching. My prayer is : I repent of those times when I let you down Lord. All the times I eat of your bounty and did not think of the bread of life, that you have given freely to me. Forgive me Lord, I have sinned against you and ask to be forgiven. In Christ name Amen
We convince ourselves that life will be better when we have more money, when we find the right mate, when we get the kids raised or build the right house. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, when we get the promotion, when we are able to go on our dream vacation or when we retire . We keep trying to find joy, contentment and peace in lifeless places and things. Jesus Christ is life. He is Joy and Love and He took our place on the cross. That's why we can give thanks when it seems as if there is nothing for which to be thankful.
One day , a man went to visit a church. He arrived early, parked his car, and got out. Another car pulled up near him, and the driver told him, " I always park there. You took my place!" The visitor went inside for Sunday School, found an empty seat, and sat down. A young lady from the church approached him and stated, "That's my seat! You took my place!" The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome, but said nothing.
Later, as the congregation was praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood, and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars became visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone for the congregation noticed him and called out, "What happened to you? " The visitor replied, "I took your place."
Yes, we live in a broken world and life is filled with pain, challenges, dark times and trails, but today can still be a day of thanksgiving and praise because praise and thanksgiving have little to do with with our inner attitude. Read the Book ; we win.. for all of eternity! We just need to take the time to remember .. and give thanks.
